A clear narrative is crucial when conveying your organisation’s purpose to a customer or stakeholder. In Tell Your Story, a 1-day course, we teach the techniques and approaches of traditional storytelling and provide a space for organisations to develop their capacity for crafting corporate narratives. We intend to provide an opportunity for individuals to hone their creative storytelling and provide new perspectives on the fundamentals of telling a story.
Our daily roles and responsibilities all require an element of storytelling; from interpreting data and client reviews to explaining product lifecycles and overall strategies, the ability to clearly and confidently share information in a compelling way is something organisations across all sectors require.Tell Your Story is structured in order to help unburden attendees from potentially prescriptive and pragmatic writing by introducing a whole host of writing exercises, storytelling theory and narrative devices - all while showcasing the holistic value of telling a good story.
Example Exercise:
Outlining the Story (The Explorer’s Narrative)
Description and fine detail are great, but they only truly succeed when accompanied by a compelling central story - something that invites us in, excites us, and makes us want to stay for the resolution or conclusion. For this exercise, read the following passage and begin to outline an overall narrative arc for the action. You’ll then be provided with a series of choices that you’ll have to select from to further the action.
An explorer holds a coveted object in their grasp. An item of rare import, taken from an ancient civilisation - a civilisation that our protagonist currently finds themselves in. They are being persued by the very people who stole the object. The goal of our brave hero is to bring the object back to its rightful place.
