Compassion through storytelling (Years 4-6)
A 6-week program for young students to explore the potential of writing in regards to their identity, how they speak to & interact with others, the relationship between narrative structure & consequence, and how specific places can influence how we behave.
Course Structure
Week 1 - Who Are You? Who Am I?
Through real world examples and character-building activities, we begin our process of learning how to understand other’s points of view.
Week 2 - Talking to Each Other
How do we handle tricky situations? Using dialogue trees of fantastical scenarios, we discuss different ways characters navigate difficult conversations.
Week 3 - The Voice in Our Head
Focusing on internal narratives, how do characters’ thoughts inform the way they behave and how we can understand the moods of others through non-verbal cues?
Week 4 - What Happens Next?
By rolling dice to determine outcomes, we explore narrative structure through the actions of characters and their consequences.
Week 5 - Understanding Place
Exploring how place influences the way characters behave.
Week 6 - Let’s Write Our Stories
Reviewing what we’ve learned & created so far to refine and share our finished stories.
